This Society is building a collection of historic images of the people, places and vessels once found on the canals and rivers of Yorkshire. They have been donated by enthusiasts who want to preserve and publish material about the heritage of an industry which underpinned the industrial success of the county but today has all but disappeared.
We have been very fortunate to have been given a computer backup copy of the images once held by the defunct Yorkshire Waterways Museum. Our belief is that the actual printed photographs donated to the museum have been lost. The backup copy was made many years ago but we believe it contains digital images of the vast majority of the photographs held at the Museum when it closed. Our challenge today is to make those digital images of a sufficient quality to allow them to be published on this website and give them a description that will help viewers understand what they can see in each photograph. There are estimated to be approximately 4,000 images available to us. Editing and describing each of those takes time but will offer many of you an ideal challenge to occupy your spare time.
If you possess good computer skills with a knowledge of photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop then we’d like to hear from you. You can get in touch using the form below.
