Drawing Number 214, dated 7th March, 1957.<\/strong><\/p><p>By the second half of the 1950s, the &#8220;Tom Pudding&#8221; steam tugs originally built for the Aire and Calder Navigation Company, were coming to the end of their working lives. Those Goole based vessels had been employed on a daily basis pulling trains of compartment boats to and from coal pits in the West Riding of Yorkshire. It was now felt the time was right to replace them with seven modern diesel powered tugs.<\/p><p>Those new tugs were to be built at different shipyards. <b><i>Hatfield<\/i><\/b> was built at Goole by Herbert Campling. Richard Dunston at Thorne built three tugs, <b><i>West<\/i><\/b> <i><b>Riding, Brodsworth <\/b><\/i>and<b><\/b><i><b> Kellingley.\u00a0 <\/b><\/i>Three more vessels, <b><i>Wheldale<\/i><\/b>, <b><i>Water Haigh<\/i><\/b> and <b><i>Allerton Bywater<\/i><\/b> were to be built by E C Jones and Son (Brentford) Limited. This drawing refers to the contract for the latter three tugs.\u00a0<\/p><p><u>Moving around the display<\/u><\/p><p>You will find a set of controls at the base of the document. Something had inspired Graham to\u00a0 photograph the drawing held by the YWM in sections, print each section, painstakingly tape them together and then have the recreated drawing scanned as a whole. It was then tucked away safely at home, and forgotten about.\u00a0<\/p><p>It is thought the copy held by YWM was destroyed after the closure in 2019.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-140a2fa elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"140a2fa\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h6 style=\"font-family: Lato; color: #333333; font-style: normal;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">\u00a0Publication permission for copyright images<\/span><\/h6><p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: Lato; font-weight: 400; color: #333333; font-style: normal;\">We acknowledge that copyright images are being shown for which no explicit permission to publish has been given to this Society. Many of the digital images shown had originally been produced with the knowledge and permission of the now defunct Yorkshire Waterways Museum from original photographs deposited there for public display.\u00a0 Following the closure of that organisation in 2019 and the break up of their collection those original photographs have disappeared and have effectively been lost to the public.<\/p><p
